Harrison's Meeting with Pittsburgh Steelers Brass

Brass:  Welcome Mr. Harrison... sorry you felt compelled to take a "one day leave of absence" because we wouldn't cough up your $75,000 fine for you.... but as you requested, we're telling everyone that you are "considering retirement" even though you really aren't...  so what else we do for you?

Harrison:  Well I'm upset that you won't pay my fine for me after I played hard like you requested... Won't you reconsider and pay the $75,000 fine?

Brass:  We're sorry Mr. Harrison, you make more than enough money to pay your own fines, and all the absences from the locker room in the world won't change our minds.  We do however, want you to keep hitting hard, just not THAT hard...

Harrison:  OK, then I guess I'm ready to come back and play... Hope there are no hard feelings over my trying to squeeze you guys for a little more cash.  Oh well, I'll just ask foir $75,000 more than I"m worth during our next contract talks...

College Soccer: Akron 7, Michigan 1

Who would have ever thought a MAC team could so dominate the Big Ten in any sport... Well, it appears they can, at least in soccer.  Tuesday night the Akron U Zips thrashed the Michigan team at Akron 7-1.  Shots on Goal favored Akron as well, 13-3.  Michigan appeared to be able to do only one thing right, and that was to continuously try to injure Akron players with hard fouls, particularly in the last 15 minutes of the game.  It's a shame that when a team can't win, they feel so compelled to take out their frustrations by trying to physical disable a player on the other team...

Akron is now 2-0-1 against the Big Ten this year, with the tie coming about as a result of a desperation shot by Ohio State in the last two seconds of regulation time.

Akron's next game is October 23rd against Western Michigan at Akron.  Catch the game on the internet at GoZips.com (monthly or annual fee required).

College Soccer

I gotta admit it, watching college soccer can be way more interesting then "Pro", World Cup and Olympic soccer.  I subscribed to my alma mater's website (Go Akron U Zips!) so I could view their soccer games, and other than the very questionable camera work, I found it to be VERY entertaining!  Probably the most refreshing thing to not see was the "oh he trippped me so I'm going to roll around on the ground for a while" antics.  Sure, players got hurt and fell down, but they didn't appear to be "milking it" in an attempt to coerce a card out of a referee.

The game, Akron (#1 in the country) vs. Buffalo was VERY one-sided with Buffalo scoring no goals, no "Shots-on-goal" and no corner kicks, but watching the skill with which the Akron players handled the ball was awe inspiring.  This is about the fourth or fifth game I have watched over the internet, and while the presentation was not the best in all the matches, at least the games are entertaining.  I just wish the rest of the sportsworld, including you CBSSportsline, would pay a little more attention to college soccer.  Soccer is up and coming here in the USA, and the media outlets need to get on the bandwagon!
